Switch guide

Linear, tactile or clicky?

The switch decides how a key feels and sounds. Every board ships with one set installed, and you can swap them later without tools beyond the included puller.

Sound profile of linear switches

Linear

Smooth from top to bottom with no bump. Quiet and quick, good for long typing sessions.

  • Actuation force: 45 g (sample)
  • Travel: 4 mm
  • Sound: soft, low thock
Sound profile of tactile switches

Tactile

A small bump tells you the key has registered, without the click. A middle ground for writing and code.

  • Actuation force: 55 g (sample)
  • Travel: 4 mm
  • Sound: muted, rounded
Sound profile of clicky switches

Clicky

A bump and a crisp click on every press. Lively and loud: maybe not for a shared office.

  • Actuation force: 60 g (sample)
  • Travel: 4 mm
  • Sound: bright click

Sample values. Sound depends on your desk, your keycaps and how hard you type.

Exploded view of a keyboard: keycaps, switches, plate, PCB, foam and case

Inside the case

Five layers between your fingers and the desk

Most of the sound and feel of a keyboard comes from what is inside it. Here is how the Clack is put together.

01

Keycaps
Thick PBT with a matte texture that does not shine with use.

02

Switches
Pre-lubed, hot-swap: pull one out, push another in.

03

Plate and gaskets
The plate sits on soft gasket strips, so each press lands softer.

04

PCB and foam
A foam sheet under the board fills the hollow sound.

05

Case
A heavy aluminium-look frame with rubber feet and a two-step tilt.

FAQ

Questions before you buy

Not sure which size or switch? Email [email protected] or call (555) 014-2280.

Which computers does it work with?

Any computer with a USB port that accepts a standard keyboard. Layout keys for different systems are placeholders in this sample store.

What does hot-swap mean?

The switches sit in sockets instead of being soldered. Pull one out with the puller and push in another 3- or 5-pin switch.

Is it wireless?

No. The Clack is wired over USB-C, so there is no battery to charge or replace (sample product).

Can I use other keycaps?

Yes, most keycap sets with a standard cross stem and layout fit. Check the size list of the set first.

What does the warranty cover?

Faults in materials and workmanship for the period shown on the product page. Damage from spills is not covered (sample terms).
